Mashup of one of the earliest U.S Coast Survey maps of San Francisco (1853), layered on top of Google Maps. Super interesting to see how closely the former city grid maps to the current one, and how far the bay extended into Downtown and Mission Bay. Also Market was the end of downtown as water extended west to First Street and south to a spit of land called Rincon Point.
